 Este volumen, constituye el conjunto de procedimientos de la 12ª Conferencia Bienal de la Red Euro mediterránea de Cuencas Experimentales y Representativas (ERB) llevada a cabo en Cracovia, Polonia, del 18 al 20 de Septiembre de 2008. La conferencia, organizada por el Instituto de Gestión Geográfica y Espacial de la Universidad Jagiellonian bajo el auspicio de la Asociación Internacional de Ciencias Hidrológicas (AICH), la iniciativa "PUB" (Predicción en Cuencas no estudiadas), y el proyecto norte europeo FRIEND (AMIGO) del Programa Hidrológico Internacional (PHI) de la UNESCO, trató el problema de los extremos hidrológicos en pequeñas cuencas.

For over 60 years, UNESCO has had a mandate to “maintain, increase and diffuse knowledge” (Constitution, Art 1. 2 (c)). In response to the challenges of globalisation and the Information Society, it advocates a vision of “Knowledge Societies”. But what do we mean by “knowledge” at UNESCO and what links are there between the Organization’s knowledge sharing programmes and its knowledge management (KM)?
